Job Description

The Manufacturing Shared Services Lead runs the shared service organization, providing operational and strategic oversight for the captive and external operations. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic Oversight:

  • Plans and selects the future process to be centralized/outsourced with Manufacturing Leadership
  • Responsible for approving demand volume for new processes being brought into shared service
  • Plans the shared service center capability and headcount growth
  • Provides inputs to Manufacturing Leadership on capabilities/processes that can be centralized or externalized
  • Provides input into determining the intake path, improvement plan, and timing for the new process

Operational Oversight:

Manages Operations:
  • Serves as the leader for the Manufacturing Captive center in India
  • Stabilizes day-to-day operations
  • Accounts for overall SLA adherence of shared services
  • Monitors and approves resourcing changes at captive and external centers to ensure service delivery
Delivers on the Business case:
  • Manages Manufacturing shared service P&L and is responsible for delivering the approved business case
Resolves any escalations related to
  • Service level agreements
  • Service delivery

Continuous Improvement & Oversight:

Approves and enables shared service excellence through

  • Program improvement
  • Productivity improvements targets
  • Evaluates continuous improvement opportunities to improve service delivery and value capture
  • Drives harmonization, transformation, and automation of services to enhance value capture

S/he will ensure that all projects are implemented on time and are of the highest quality.

S/he will also ensure a strong sense of service orientation to internal customers. This will include an emphasis on a high level of user training and ensuring internal quality compliance.

S/he will lead and develop team members so as to attract and retain the best within the industry.

S/he will communicate extensively and effectively among team members, the value and culture that our India organization needs to evolve. The Lead will ensure that the Manufacturing Shared Services operations are dependable and can be relied on to produce high-quality output within the agreed timelines, whether delivered via internal or external resources.

Qualification and skills:

  • Required to have a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or equivalent.
  • Required to have 10+ years of experience in a large multinational corporation (MNC).  Preference to have experience in pharmaceutical/life sciences.
  • Preferably to have an MBA / Masters degree in Industrial/Chemical Engineering.
  • Preferable to have proven experience in setting up or running a captive center in India or leading a large team.
    • Should have dealt with complex business processes
    • Should have the commitment to build a strong local leadership team combined with the ability to nurture and retain top talent.
    • Desire to build results and success-oriented culture.
    • Ability to plan strategically and to execute that plan.
    • Experience working in the US in a Fortune 100 company will be an advantage.

Desired Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate should possess the ability to understand business dynamics and suggest/provide solutions. S/he should have the ability to conceptualize a project pursuant to a thorough assessment of the existing and future needs and implement the same within the cost & time framework with available resources.

Excellent communication skills – should possess the ability to articulate thoughts precisely and concisely. S/he should be able to bridge the gap between the technological and business thought processes and display an ability to be persuasive. S/he should also have good listening skills.

Hands-on approach – should be a strong driver in the system with a keen eye on success variables. S/he should have strong project, process, and business management skills and the ability to take immediate decisions.

Maturity – should display a high degree of maturity in decision-making. S/he should be able to inspire confidence in his / her colleagues and have the ability to influence, guide and motivate people.

Sensitive to cultural differences – ability to blend in an international environment and communicate effectively with superiors & peers from various nationalities. Particularly important in transferring the organization’s worldwide culture to its Indian Unit.

Leadership – good team builder and team player. Ability to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the team and act appropriately. Motivate and build a strong internal team.

Though the position requires the capability to manage the business without direct supervision, it will keep the Manufacturing Leadership stakeholders informed of all actions taken, progress made, and concerns as they arise.
